Year 2 trip to the Sea Life Centre

28/1/2015

On Wednesday 28th January 44 year 2 children spent a fascinating and mesmorising day in Birmingham at the Sea Life Centre. We touched prickly star fish, watched penguins dive, found the brightly coloured, tiny, poisonous dart frog, discovered that daddy seahorses can give birth to 150 babies and marvelled at the sea world above us as we walked along the underwater tunnel.

It was the best trip ever!

The ocean tunnel was amazing!

It was the best day of my life!

This has been a great, great day!

Tate Visit Diary - Year 5/6

22/1/2015

08:45 - the coach has departed, everyone has been to the loo, and the air conditioning is working! But the big question on all the children's lips is: Can we watch a DVD?

11:26 - We're just pulling into central London. No one has been sick, spirits are high, lots of famous landmarks spotted already ... and a BMW i8! Two boys in particular are very excited to see that.

12:00 - After arriving a little later than expected, we stop for an early lunch in the Turbine Hall.

We just spotted a BMW i8!!!

Lunch on the Turbine Hall steps!

12:45 - We are enjoying exploring a room with art works around a theme of energy and movement. Lots of pieces of art are making us ask the question "is this really art?'

13:30 - A very interesting video about visually impaired artists drawing and painting portraits, and some interesting sculptures that make us question what is valuable, and what is junk.

Picture
It looks so shiny! But is it valuable?

Learning the alphabet ... with a few missing letters.

15:00 - The coach has just departed and we are enjoying some very contemporary 'art' - traffic! Everyone talking about favourite sculptures and paintings, sharing sketches, eating Twixes and relaxing after a fantastic day.

A huge thank you to all of the parent helpers who came with us to lead groups around the museum.

Picture
Very modern, cubist art.

My favourite image was one from Miro, 'the Metamorphasis of Narcissus', because it tells the story of how he loves himself so much that he fell in love with his own reflection

I found a great quote - 'the hour is devoted to revenge'.

It was nice to see the paintings for real, rather than on a computer. You could see the way the artist had painted it.

The picture of the three buckets reminded me of slavery, because they looked broken and tired.

It was art-tasctic!

Indoor Athletics

22/1/2015

Yesterday, our indoor athletes from years 5 and 6 (11 girls and 13 boys) took part in the Central Area finals at Campion School. Following their success in the qualifying heats the children approached the finals with confidence in their abilities. The level of competition amongst the 5 schools was impressive with some amazing athletic talent on show. The children had a great afternoon and supported each other well. Over all the track and field events the Milverton team finished in 4th place. Well done to all the children who took part and gave their best.
