I’m Zoe Morrissey. I’ve been a governor at the school since summer 2019 and the Chair of Governors since Autumn 2020. I have a child currently in year 2 at Milverton and my youngest starting in September 2021.
My day job is a lawyer at National Grid where I do a fair bit of governance and assurance - skills I've found really useful in taking on the role of Chair. Being a governor has given me a fantastic insight into the school that I wouldn’t otherwise have had and enables me to use my skills in the best way to give back to the school. |
I have been a governor at Milverton since 1994, first as a parent governor for eight years, and since then as a coopted governor. For many years I was chair of the Performance and Standards Committee, with particular interests in supporting a creative, stimulating curriculum, and the welfare and happiness of children and staff. I was chair of governors for four years, and felt privileged to play a significant part in recruiting our headteacher, and working with many parents and other members of the community who give their time as governors. As a teacher and school leader (now retired), I enjoy using my knowledge and experience to help support and challenge the great team who create this wonderful school.
Milverton children are creative and resilient, with a real eagerness to learn, and a strong sense of community: I feel proud to play a part in developing the school which helps them grow up in this way. |
My name is Clare McNicholas and I am currently the Chair of the Finance and Personnel Committee. I am also the link governor for literacy. I became a governor in 2014, at a time when both my daughters were at Milverton. One has since left to go to secondary school and my youngest is in year 6.
I became a governor because I wanted to get more involved in my local community - Milverton has played such an important part in my family's life over the last 10 years. I also wanted the opportunity to give something back - I wouldn't be where I am today if it hadn't been for certain teachers at secondary school who encouraged me. My favourite part of the role is going into school and seeing the impact of the things the school is doing. In my day job I work as an employment lawyer; skills and experience that have also been useful in this role. |
My name is Anne-Claire Bennion and I have two children currently at Milverton. I have been a parent governor at the school since September 2020 and am sitting on the Premises committee.
As part of my professional career, I have founded and run a language school for 5 years and gained a practical knowledge and understanding of the workings of a school, especially with regards to health and safety. Working in languages, I am also very keen to advance modern foreign language learning at Milverton. In my spare time, I am a keen musician and run a community choir. I decided to become a parent governor as I wished to support our school and our community and to contribute to its development, so that all the children can flourish and become confident young people through a creative curriculum. |
Hello, my name is Farzana Meru and I have a daughter in Year 1 at Milverton. By profession I am an Assistant Professor at the University of Warwick. Being an Astrophysicist, I am passionate about all things related to science and technology!
I decided to be a parent governor because I wanted the opportunity to give back to the school that my daughter loves so much. I particularly love the friendly nature of the school that is playing such an important part in making sure the children of Milverton not only have a great educational start in life, but also grow up to be well-rounded individuals. Farazna is on the performance and standards committee and is the link governor for Science. Marianne TalbotHello, my name is Marianne and I have been a governor at Milverton on and off since 2004. Both my children attended Milverton and loved it; one is now in the second year of their maths degree and the other is studying A levels in English literature, psychology, and biology. I have been working in education since the early 1990s, so hopefully I bring some useful experience to the table.
I'm currently a Course Leader for the Chartered Institute of Educational Assessors, based at the University of Hertfordshire. I am also leading the independent evaluation of two outreach projects for St John's College at Oxford University, which aim to encourage schools that have not traditionally sent many students to Oxford to apply. But my first love is travelling the world - although the photo here was more prosaically taken on the sunny English south coast! |

I’m on the performances & standards committee and am the link Governor for Maths. I really enjoy being a governor as I feel I have a useful input into assessing and overseeing how the school implements learning and most importantly making the curriculum fun and interesting for the children.
We also challenge the senior leadership team on attainment and progress of all pupils and assess what measures are being put in place to address any concerns. I get to learn in depth about the Maths curriculum and how the lead is progressing maths learning and teaching throughout the year groups. |
